The Legacy Project

Initiative to Preserve and Promote the Legacy of Sun Myung Moon

Mission

The mission of this project is to collect and preserve artifacts produced during and because of the public ministry of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon in the United States. This collection is intendedto serve as a component of the historical record of the activities and impact of Rev. Moon and the Unification Church during his ministry throughout the United States.

Purpose

This project will seek contributions from Unification Church members of personal artifacts they have collected during their service to our True Father’s ministry. Staff will categorize and preserve collected items to provide the basis for future historical research into our True Father's impact and legacy in the United States and beyond. Undoubtedly, future Unification Church members will want insights into what their ancestors experienced during the cosmically historic lifetime of our TrueFather on this earth. Collected materials also could serve as original source materials for any museums erected to commemorate ourTrue Father’s ministry and eternal legacy in the United Statesand throughout the world.

Collections will cover

·       Items produced in support of our True Father’s public ministry.

·       Products of the manyorganizations and businesses that True Father founded.

·       Items that state and localUnification Church centers generated in support of witnessing and fund-raising activities and public outreach to the community.

·       Personal items such as daily journals, diaries, and letters that members created to document their life and experiences in the Unification Church.

Examples of what we will collect:

·       Posters, brochures and pamphlets, buttons, other materials created in support of our True Father’s speaking campaigns and other public ministries. Newspaper and magazine articles and photographs are also sought.

·       Promotional materials, press releases, printed products, photos, and newspaper and magazine articles generated for and about any of the charitable, scientific, theological, media organizations and businesses that True Father created and supported during his lifetime.

·       Personal items such as photos that document and illustrate the life of Unification Church members (MFT, IOWC, CARP, church centers, seminary, etc.) during our True Father’s lifetime. Journals, diaries, and letters will provide rich background information for historians and other researchers on the lives of church members and the impact of our True Father on their lives and American culture and society.

All items are welcome. It is the unconventional or controversial items that add color and depth to how future historians assess the legacy of our True Father.
